US$400 (8GB) lytro.com
The Lytro hasn't wasted any time scrapping over megapixels with the rest of the point-and-shoots in the sandpit. Instead this tiny anodised aluminium tube has made the leap to playing with 'megarays' to capture the colour, intensity and amount of light travelling in every direction in the scene. Once the Lytro's genius Light Field Engine has done the legwork, the image is yours for the manipulating. Not only can you focus and refocus on any part of the image after having shot it – making blurry, unusable photos a thing of the past – but Lytro also promises 3D panning and the ability to play with perspective in future updates.
